Today I’m happy to share my experience with you from a new coffee and sandwich shop in the heart of Tabor City, called The Grind.
This new vendor has taken over the old gas station/garage property across the street from the Tabor City school on Fifth Street. They have done a great job with the exterior, adding outdoor tables and flower boxes to dress up the place. The interior of what used to be a grease joint has been turned into a clean and modern vibe.
Showcasing local art and craftwork, the whole look and feel is that of a gallery, offering a quiet and relaxing atmosphere to get your caffeine fix or a quick bite in peace. My daughter found the piano sitting in the next room and ruined that quiet time, but I always enjoy hearing her play, so no big deal!

I have been working to get over to this spot for a few weeks, as they have been open since the end of March. This was my first available time to get by and find out more.
Service was quick and friendly as we ordered some coffees: One iced vanilla, one mocha frappe and one chai milk tea, whatever that is… We had just come back from the beach and didn’t have the stomach space for food on this visit, but that won’t stop us next time.
I did check out the menu and looked to be a nice selection of sandwiches and wraps. They also offer soups and salads along with breakfast options. I talked with the staff, who quickly advised me to let you know that call ahead in the mornings is a big hit. They have a shop in Loris and this makes their second location. They are happy to be in Tabor City and folks are stopping in.
My iced vanilla coffee was great. Well flavored, not over sweetened and went down smooth. A properly balanced cup, perfect for a hot day’s pick-me-up. Way better than Dunkin. My daughter said the chai was better than Starbucks, so there’s that.
The Rating: 4 – In the Zone
I have this based on drinks, service, and atmosphere. We didn’t order any food on this visit. The place was clean and service was quick. Nothing that I can really take away from. I again can’t place a rating on the food, although pics on Google look nice and fresh.
I can’t wait to stop back in and try something at this location. If you haven’t been to the Grind yet, make a plan to stop in and as always, support our folks. Let’s do our part to sustain the business that impact our county’s economy directly.
Thanks for reading!
