Woman Jailed in Shoe Assault

A woman was jailed Sunday after allegedly attacking a deputy with her shoe.

Karen Sabrina Buffkin, 37, of 5329 Swamp Fox Hwy., Tabor City, was charged with a single count of assault on a government official and held on $2,500 secured bond, according to detention center records.

Deputies were called to a home on Fairfield Drive West just before 10 a.m. to a suspicious person report, the sheriff’s office said. They found Buffkin on the back deck of the residence. She did not have permission to be on the property, the report said.

Deputies ordered her off the deck several times, but Buffkin refused. She then attacked one deputy with her shoe. The deputy was not injured.

Deputies detained the woman and after she was checked out by EMS, she was transported to the Columbus County Detention Center for processing.

The sheriff’s office did not say why Buffkin was at the home.
