
Whiteville Police arrested a Hallsboro man on break-in and cocaine charges moments after he allegedly shattered a window at a Whiteville car dealership, according to reports.
Matthew Steven Freeman Jr., 19, of 58 Whipperwill Rd., Hallsboro, was held under $25,000 secured bond, according to detention center reports and warrants. He was charged with breaking and entering, property damage, and trafficking cocaine. He was also served with an outstanding summons for second degree trespassing.
Whiteville Police were dispatched to Van Underwood Chrysler Jeep at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 20) after an alarm was activated. The dealership is located at 501 S. Madison Street.
Freeman was allegedly inside the building, where he allegedly caused $10,000 in damage to a Dodge Charger and another $1,000 to the building.
Officers reportedly found 53 grams of cocaine and a bottle with five pills on his person.
Freeman was also wanted for second degree trespassing after going to a home on Thelma Road in Hallsboro when he was told to stay away. That charge carried a $5,000 unsecured bond.
