Submit-A-Tip Leads to Trafficking Charges

Earl Oxendine (CCSO)

An alleged narcotics trafficker in Cerro Gordo was shut down this week after tips from the public via the sheriff’s office app.

Earl Oxendine, 58, was arrested at home on charges of trafficking opiates, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for drug activities, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver opiates, and drug paraphernalia. He is being held under $25,000 secured bond. His address was listed on court documents as 340 Otto Nance Rd., Cerro Gordo.

Sheriff Bill Rogers said Oxendine was arrested after complaints from citizens who used the Submit-A-Tip function on the sheriff’s office app to file “numerous complaints of drug activity in the area.”

Through their investigation, Vice/Narcotics Detectives developed information that Oxendine was running a drug business. During the search of the property, they found a large quantity of narcotics, packaging material and “other items used to transport illegal drugs,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

The operation stemmed directly from information submitted by citizens through Submit-A-Tip, Sheriff Bill Rogers said. He emphasized the critical role community involvement plays in fighting crime.

“When our citizens take the time to share their concerns with us, we take them seriously,” Rogers said in a press release. “This case is proof that your tips do not go unheard — we investigate them, and we take action. We are doing this for you, the people of Columbus County. Together, we can make our communities safer.”
