Imelda is out of here, and Columbus County has ton of adventures lined up for this weekend. The farmers market will finally get to have their postponed Harvest Festival event, Fair Bluff will open up shop for their Fall First Saturday Market, and Bolton will be holding their twenty-sixth annual Pine Tree celebration.  

Halloween is just around the corner, so if your church or organization is having a fall festival, safe night or trunk or treat for Halloween, we want to know about it. Grissettown-Longwood Fire Department will be opening their haunted trail for another season of spookiness every Friday and Saturday evening from 7-10 p.m. during the month of October and from 7-10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, for Halloween night.    

Tickets are $20 per person, and you can get yours by calling 910.287.3030 or by visiting www.grissettownfire.com.  The station can be found at 758 Longwood Road in Ocean Isle Beach. 

Carolyn’s Kaleidoscope Child Advocacy Center and the Columbus County Library are teaming up to present Story Time at the library’s main branch. Each session will include a story, learning, and an activity.  

Preschool children are welcomed to drop in today, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. for the event, and school aged kids can come by on Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. for their Story Time. The library is located at 407 North JK Powell Boulevard in Whiteville.  

A chicken bog fundraiser will be held on Oct. 3 at the Vietnam Veterans building for Alayna Adams, a 15-month-old little girl diagnosed with brain cancer who is receiving treatments at Levine Children’s Cancer Hospital.

The Artesia Alumni Association will also be having a lunch and yard sale fundraiser on Oct. 3 beginning at 11 a.m. at 847 Hallsboro Road South. Plates are $7 each and include two hotdogs, potato chips, and water or a soda.  

When you get done eating, stick around to see if you can find any secondhand treasures that strike your curiosity at the yard sale. All proceeds will go to the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Whiteville Police Department put in a call to Food Lion to help stock an important little venture at the Columbus County DREAM Center last week. The Savvy Snack Store is not just a place to for students to grab a treat. It is a hands-on learning experience where they practice decision-making, responsibility, and financial literacy.  

The DREAM Center thanked the partnership of the two organizations for supporting the shared commitment of empowering young minds.  

The Columbus County Farmers Market will hold their Fall Harvest Festival that was postponed from last weekend due to inclement weather. Come out this Saturday, Oct. 4, from 5-8 for live music, food, fun, games, photo props, market vendors, and tons of fun.  

Admission is $5 per person, and children ten and under get in for free. The market can be found at 132 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville.   

Fair Bluff will be having the Fall First Saturday Market on Oct. 4 starting at 8 a.m. until. There will be live music, a kids pumpkin carving contest, a fishing contest, vendors, and a livestock swap. 

This event is held every first Saturday of the month on Riverside Drive in Fair Bluff. 

Fair Bluff Baptist Church will also be having a BBQ plate sale on Oct. 4 at the church from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Plates are $10 each and include BBQ, slaw, beans and bread. Desserts will also be available during the event.  

FBBC can be found at 1205 Main Street right beside the Riverwalk.  

The town of Bolton will be celebrating their twenty-sixth annual Pine Tree Festival on Saturday, Oct. 4. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., and you can spend the rest of the day enjoying food, crafts, vendors, music, entertainment and tons of fun.

Let the Community Art Journey help you unwind every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at the facility. Drop in, relax, and explore creative activities like art journaling, Zen drawing, card making, mindful painting, and creative expression for stress relief.

Southeastern Community College will be holding a bus driver class Oct. 6-9 in the T Building on campus. Registration will be at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 6, and classes will begin promptly afterwards at 8 a.m.  

All participants must be on time and will not be allowed to participate if they miss a portion of the class. You must bring $70 cash on the first day, along with your driver’s license, pencil and paper.  

SCC is located at 4564 Chadbourn Highway in Whiteville.  

It’s volunteer time for the Columbus Baptist Association’s annual Christmas Toy Store. The organization needs help setting up and running the store between Monday, Dec. 8 through Saturday, Dec. 13.  

Those interested in lending a helping hand can reach out to Reverend Dave Heller through Facebook Messenger, or you can call the CBA office at 910.642.2155. The Toy Store is a ministry that helps low-income families buy Christmas presents for their children for dimes on the dollar each holiday season.  

Are you ready for some carnival food, a Ferris wheel, and the Demolition Derby? The Columbus County Agricultural Fair will be coming back to town from Oct. 7-12. Admission is $8 per person, and ride wristbands can be purchased online at discounted prices until 4 p.m. on opening day. The fair will also have Special Friends Day on Oct. 8 at 9 a.m., Kindergarten Day on Oct. 9 at 9 a.m., and Senior Day on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.

The Holiness Tabernacle Church of Tabor City will be having a fish plate sale on Oct. 17. Plates are $10 each and will include fish, baked beans, slaw, bread, and a dessert. If you would like to purchase tickets, you can contact Robert Nealey or Tim Bass via Facebook. Proceeds will go towards helping support the church.
