Here’s today’s Bottom Line

A sprawling ridge of high pressure extending from off the coast of Long Island southwestward through the Carolinas/Tennessee will continue to influence our weather through the weekend. As the high slides off the Virginia coast by Sunday, a more moist, southerly flow starts to become established, and a bit of a coastal frontal boundary takes shape.

An increase in clouds is likely with this change can be expected Monday and Tuesday… it’ll be a touch warmer, and a bit humid as well.

A strong cold front approaches the area by Wednesday, and all available modeling has that sweeping across the region sometime Thursday. This will bring our next legitimate rain chances and possibly a line of thunderstorms.

TROPICS: Imelda has taken the ride into history, and that’s that.

There are two areas being watched by the National Hurricane Center. One is over southern Florida. An old frontal boundary exists and some of the modeling suggests that an area of low pressure might spin up along the remnant boundary. Any development is expected to be slow as the system lifts to the northwest into the Gulf of America. The NHC gives this area a 10% chance for development. Given the strong cold front that will push through our area next week, whatever develops from this isn’t likely to impact us here in Columbus County.

The second area is an area with two tropical waves kind of converging into place in the eastern tropical Atlantic. Slow development is possible with this. The NHC gives this a 0%/30% chance for development.

No threats to the Carolinas for the foreseeable future.
