Sex Offender Arrested Trying to Check Out Student

Agustin Rojas Jr.

A registered sex offender was arrested Thursday when he was flagged by the Whiteville High School computer system.

Agustin Rojas Jr., 46, of 110 Reaves Ferry Rd., Nakina, was held under a $1,000 secured bond, charged with a single felony count of being a sex offender on school property.

The Schol Resource Officer at WHS was called to the office after Rojas logged onto the visitor registration computer at the school. The Centegix Visitor Management System identified Rojas as a sex offender, according to the report.

Rojas was confirmed by a records check to be an active registered sex offender and taken into custody.

The N.C. Sex Offender Database shows Rojas was convicted of an unspecified sex offense in Florida in 2001, and given an 18-month suspended sentence. Florida records show he was 21 when he was convicted of taking lewd and lascivious actions on a child under 16 years of age. He was ordered to register as a sex offender for a minimum of ten years. He moved to North Carolina in 2011 and transferred his registration then, according to records.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that registered offenders are prohibited by state law from entering any school campus for any purpose.
