Inman is alleged to have shot and killed David Ray Ivey, 28, of 149 Dudney Lane. Deputies were called to the scene around 2:27 p.m., according to an incident report. A woman and child were in the home at the time.

Deputies began performing first aid on the victim as soon as they arrived, according to a press release from Sheriff Bill Rogers, and continued performing CPR until EMS arrived.

“Despite the deputies’ determined and sustained attempts to save him, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Rogers said in the release. “Our deputies responded immediately and did everything humanly possible to try to save the victim’s life. This is a heartbreaking loss for the family and our community. We will continue working diligently to ensure justice is served.”

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of David Ray Ivey Jr. during this difficult time.
