Here’s today’s Bottom Line:
The year 2025 will quietly end and the year 2026 will quietly begin.
High pressure over the area will keep dry weather in place today. Our highs will be slightly warmer than yesterday… we should reach the lower to possibly middle 50s this afternoon with mostly sunny skies.
For evening festivities, you can expect clear skies and dry weather to ring in the New Year. Temps should generally be in the upper 30s at midnight… to near 40 if you’re headed to Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, or Southport. So wear a jacket, and go out and have fun. Please don’t drink and drive… Uber and Lyft will have a heavy saturation, as will law enforcement. Get a ride and stay safe.
New Year’s Day will feature more sunshine and temperatures right at what would be considered “normal” for the first of January… in the mid to upper 50s. The clear skies will continue Thursday night with temps back in the 30s.
Then on Friday we will experience an increase in cloudiness as moisture gathers on the southern branch of the jet stream. Low pressure will come together and move quickly over the southeast US. Friday will feature an increase in cloudiness, with some rain developing after midnight Friday night. Temps again will reach the upper 50s.
Very likely that Saturday will be a rainout… a perfect day to stay inside. We’re not looking at “heavy” rainfall, but a decent soaking is still likely — one-half to one inch of much-needed rainfall. The rain tapers off late Saturday night, and our skies rapidly clear by Sunday.
High pressure then regains control for the first part of next week with temps just slightly above seasonal normal values… right around 60 by day, mid to upper 30s by night. No significant weather systems on the horizon through next week.
