Teen Charged After Woman Shot

A fight between two girls left a woman shot near Elizabethtown Monday, Bladen investigators said.

The suspect, who is 17, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury and discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling, according to the Bladen Sheriff’s Office. Because she is underage her name was not released. The suspect was taken to the juvenile detention center in Fayetteville.

Deputies were called to the 110 block of Moultrie Lane at approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday, BCSO said in a press release. They found the victim, a 62-year-old female, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. She called 911 to report the shooting and ask for help, the report said.

The victim was in her home and was not involved in the fight that led up to the shooting. Two teen girls began arguing and the disagreement escalated into a physical fight and gunfire, the report said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital and is expected to recover.
