The family dog and working smoke alarms saved a family from what could have been a devastating house fire this morning.
The garage on the Delco home was destroyed, according to Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire-Rescue, but firefighters from ADR, alongside Northwest Bolton and Buckhead, contained the blaze to one area. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
In a social media post, ADR credited smoke alarms and a dog for saving the family.
“Working smoke detectors and a very attentive family dog made all the difference in the outcome of this incident,” said Chief Steve Camlin.

All units were back in their stations roughly an hour after the call.
The chief also shared heating safety tips for all residents, especially those using space heaters.
“Early detection and safe practices prevent small incidents from becoming tragedies,” he wrote.
As temperatures stay cold and heaters get used more frequently:
- Never run space heaters off extension cords
- Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet
- Keep heaters at least three feet away from anything that can burn
- Check cords regularly for wear or damage
- Test your smoke detectors monthly
Camlin thanked the other departments for their assistance.
“ADR is proud of the quick work by responding crews and thankful everyone went home safe this morning,” he wrote.
