Bladen Deputy, Suspect Recovering After Shooting

The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that left a deputy and a suspect injured today (Friday). The deputy was wearing body armor, which likely saved his life.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office said an anonymous call to 911 around 7:40 a.m. placed a known wanted suspect in the 600 block of Pine Acres Road, Ammon. The suspect had multiple unserved warrants, according to the BCSO.

Deputies found the individual, and during the arrest he began fighting. The deputy was shot in the chest during the fight, but his body armor prevented more serious injuries.

Other deputies opened fire and the suspect was taken into custody.

Both the deputy and the suspect were taken to area hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, the BCSO said. As is standard procedure, the State Bureau of Investigation and District attorney’s Office were called in to handle the investigation.

All involved deputies are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the inquiry.
