Herbicide, Stool Used in Assault on Disabled Victim

An elderly woman was charged with first degree burglary and assault on a disabled person after allegedly throwing herbicide on the victim.

Wanda Gale Avery, 76, of 47 Renee Lane, Chadbourn, was held under a secured bond. She faces a single count each of assault on a disabled person and first degree burglary, according to the sheriff’s office.

Avery is alleged to have used a stool to break into the home listed as her own address just after midnight Friday morning. She used the stool to break a window, according to the sheriff’s office, then gained entry to the home and threw Roundup weed killer on the victim. The report listed the alleged victim as a 60 year old man who is wheelchair bound.

His condition was not available.
