DEVELOPING STORY:
Whiteville Police and the State Bureau of Investigation are on the scene of a reported homicide.
The victim was female. Police were called to a physical therapy facility at 711 North Thompson Street after someone called 911 around 5:30 a.m. An ambulance was on scene at 5:45 a.m., according to a witness.
“Police discovered a woman inside the building who was transported to a local medical facility where she died,” SBI Spokesman Chad Flowers said. “Agents are on scene investigating.”
WPD Chief Paul Rockenbach said the victim was transported to Columbus Regional, where she succumbed to her injuries. A cause of death and the victim’s identity have not been released pending notification of kin, he said.
The incident is considered to be isolated.
