Here’s today’s Bottom Line:
Welcome to the first day of SPRING! The Spring Equinox is this morning at 10:46. This is the point where the rays of the sun are fixed directly on the equator of the Earth. Typically we have equal amounts of daylight and darkness… today’s sunrise at Whiteville is 7:18 AM while the sunset is 7:27 PM, so we call it “close enough.”
Anyway, spring is here and with that comes a rather substantial warmup!
Strong high pressure will be fully in control through the weekend. Temps will warm up considerably, and we’ll probably need to run the air conditioning by Sunday and Monday as we reach the middle and upper 80s.
Picture-perfect weather for Southern Farm Days at Lake Waccamaw! I hope to see yall there!
The next cold front comes through later Monday, but honestly I’m not impressed at all with the dynamics. We’ll have a rather significant cooldown for Tuesday (NO threat for frost), with temps warming back up once again. Longer-term modeling says we get another front toward the end of next week with another round of cooler temps (again, no frost threat) for the end of the month.
Unfortunately we do remain under rather significant drought conditions across the entire state. The western half of Columbus County is under a “D1 moderate” drought, while the eastern half is under the “D2 severe” drought level. With little to no rain in sight over the next 7 days, we must be VERY CAREFUL with any outdoor burning activities and try to conserve water where we can.
