Dry conditions have turkeys moving more and strutting earlier this year, possibly making Saturday’s youth season opener a bigtime for young hunters.
Whild turkey season for youth is open Saturday and Sunday, April 4-5, statewide. Only one bearded turkey may be taken by a hunter during youth season.
Youth under 16 may be accompanied by a licensed adult who may not harvest a bird. Adults may call turkeys in for youth hunters.
Regular season runs April 11-May 9.
Only shotguns are allowed for harvesting turkeys. It is unlawful to hunt turkeys within a 300 yard radius of any place bait has been scattered until 10 days after the bait is consumed or removed.
All turkey harvests must be reported via a Big Game Harvest report card, regardless of season.
