Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Today is honestly going to be a beautiful day as we’ll receive much-needed rainfall.  I know this comes at the expense of the Strawberry Festival… but this is liquid gold today.

Multiple surface areas of low pressure will lift northeast along a stalled frontal boundary just to our south. At the same time, a significant upper-level trough will dive southeast over the area. The combination of this will result in an extended period of rain which should last into at least the mid-afternoon hours. A “consolidated” and very strong surface low will develop and accelerate away from eastern NC late tonight. This will bring a sharp conclusion to the rain; colder and drier air will push in toward daybreak on Sunday.

Rainfall amounts across the county should be around an inch. There may be some variability, but honestly not very much.

Behind this system, dry and chilly air will surge into the area. This will result in below-normal temperatures for late tonight through Sunday night. A warming trend then takes place starting on Monday with dry weather through Wednesday.

Our next frontal system approaches on Thursday with showers and thunderstorms. It’s still “TBD” on how much rain this system will bring; modeling suggests this will be a fairly strong surface front with mid- and upper-level support. I’ll watch this system for the potential for rainfall… and a potential for severe weather.
