3A Championship Game 1: Midway 4, Whiteville 0
WHITEVILLE—Tanner Williams pitched a complete game 4-hit shutout to propel Midway past Whiteville 4-0 in the first game of the 3A Eastern Championship series.
With the win, Midway is one game away from the 3A State Championship. Last year, the Raiders were the 2A Eastern Runners-up.
Williams also struck out five while going the distance in the contest. Midway (20-7) got on the board in the first inning when third baseman Wyatt Scott knocked in leadoff batter Carson Tew. In the fourth, Johnson walked, Camden Wilson got a single, and a walk to Luke Peterson and Cameron Register got things going for the Raiders.
Carson Tew’s double knocked in two runs to put Midway up 4-0. That was all that was needed for the victory. Carson Tew led the Raiders’ bats going 2-3 with a run scored and two RBI’s.
Layton McLean picked up the loss for the Wolfpack. McLean pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four walks to go with six strikeouts. He was charged for the Raiders four runs. Whiteville (18-7) will try and regroup at Spivey’s Corner on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Game 2. Should the Pack take Game 2, both teams will return to Whiteville Saturday for a winner-take-all at 7 p.m. for a spot in the state championship series.
