Here’s today’s Bottom Line
A dissipating stationary front over the area will lead to higher than normal rain chances through the weekend. As the front falls apart, a deep southerly flow of tropical moisture will bring largely uncapped and uninhibited instability, resulting in scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms every day this week.
Rainfall amounts will likely vary widely. We picked up 2.24 inches of rain at my station in central Whiteville on Friday, but some areas nearby got nothing whatsoever. This will be the case through the next 5-7 days where some areas get blitzed with downpours and other areas get very little. It is impossible to predict “who gets what” and what time that occurs.
If you have outdoor plans this holiday weekend, be prepared to made adjustments on the fly. Keep a watchful eye and ear to the sky. Any storms that develop will have the capability of producing intense rainfall and frequent cloud to ground lightning.
