120 Golfers Battle Heat in Schultz Foundation Whack Smack It Tournament

More than 120 golfers fought 108-degree index heat Friday to raise money for the Jim and Sue Schultz foundation with their annual “Whack Smack It” Golf Tournament held at Vineyard Golf of White Lake.

The tournament has raised over $50,000 over the last three years for East and West Bladen Athletics, plus Elizabethtown Dixie Youth Baseball, which the late Jim Schultz was a longtime coach. The Schultz’ grandchildren, like their sons, grew up playing in the local school system, recreation departments, and DYB in Elizabethtown.

The winners for the tournament in the first flight, which was a four-person Captain’s Choice event, was the team of Georgio’s with a score of -22. Placing second was the Bladen Off Road team. Jim Reaves team took third place.

The second flight belonged to the South River Land team, which posted a -11 score. Bladen Builders took second place in the second flight.

The third flight belonged to the team of William Brisson, who posted an eight under par. Star Communications place second.

Awards for closest to the pin belonged to Brian Haymore on #2, John Hall on #5, Charles Lewis took the closest to #12 pin, and Lester Lovette was the closest to the hole with his drive on #16. The longest drive award went to Tyler Zupcic, and Logan Warner had the longest drive among the women.
