Here’s today’s Bottom Line
A weak “frontal boundary” (if you want to call it that) will provide a bit of lift to the atmosphere today. That, combined with a return to a rather humid subtropical flow from the Gulf, will spark a few spotty thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening. I don’t think it’ll be anything too major, nothing too widespread.
A quiet … but humid … night tonight.
A very slow-moving cold front (a real one!) will push across the state starting on Thursday. Subtropical moisture pushing northeast ahead of this front will set the stage for multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon through Saturday night.
The NWS WPC has placed much of the area under a 5% risk for excessive rainfall Thursday through Saturday.
Thunderstorms will probably be relatively slow-moving clusters capable of producing significant localized rainfall, along with localized areas of flooding. Thunderstorms will also likely be prolific lightning generators as well.
The front should slowly dissipate by Sunday into Monday with a return to dry weather and temps running above normal.
LUNAR ECLIPSE: There will be a lunar eclipse during the night Thursday night/Friday. Viewing is not going to be good because of clouds and rain.
TROPICS: A tropical storm … ironically named Dolly … will likely form by the weekend in the central Atlantic. All available modeling has this doing the north curve and missing the US entirely.
