ELIZABETHTOWN—The Whiteville at East Bladen game lived up to its billing Friday as the Pack downed the Eagles 48-36.
The game featured two of the best running backs in the area, Ty’lae Rose from Whiteville and Jaden Lewis East Bladen.
Rose scored first for the Pack from nine yards out to give the Pack an early 6-0 lead. A couple of exchanged fumbles by both squads led to a one-yard score from Jaden Lewis for the the Eagles to tie the game 6-6 with 11:39 left early in the second period. The Wolfpack fumbled again at the 44-yard line to set up a three-yard touchdown from Lewis.
Lewis converted the two-point conversion to put the Eagles ahead 14-6. Whiteville took the next drive down the field, ending with a 10-yard Rose touchdown to tie the game at 14-14 with the two-point conversion. The Pack got the ball back and a Terry Phillips 29-yard sprint put the Pack at the Eagles’ 11-yard line.
Quarterback Luke McLean crossed the goal line from one yard away to give the Wolfpack a 21-14 lead at the half. Izaac Elkins added the extra point.
East Bladen came out strong in the third quarter. The Eagles drove the ball down the field and the result was a 42-yard touchdown run from Riley Collins. Jaden Lewis converted the two-point conversion and gave East Bladen a 22-21 advantage with 9:12 left in the third quarter.
Whiteville quarterback McLean responded with two touchdown passes. The first was a 17-yard toss to Trayvionne Williams and the second one to Teron Legette to push the Pack lead to 35-22 with 4:02 remaining in the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles got back on the scoreboard with another Lewis score from three yards out. The two-pointer failed and the score was 35-28.
McLean proceeded to lead Whiteville down the field to throw his third touchdown of the night as he connected with Collin Hooks from 16 yards out to push the lead to 41-28. On the next possession, Rose scored his third touchdown on the night to make it 48-28 Whiteville. Lewis added his fourth touchdown with less than one minute to go to cut the score to 48-36.
Riley Collins added the two-point conversion for the Eagles. Rose ended the night for the Wolfpack with three touchdowns and 142 yards on the ground. Luke McLean was 6-7 for 86 yards and three touchdown passes and one rushing.
East Bladen’s Jaden Lewis ended the night with 139 yards and four touchdowns. Teammate Riley Collins also had an outstanding night with 164 yards on the ground and a touchdown. The Eagles will travel to Clinton (2-1) while the Wolfpack will host East Columbus (2-1) at Legion Stadium next Friday.
