Fleeing a sobriety checkpoint led to high bonds and multiple charges for a man and woman Aug. 28.
Kasie Gwen Leonard and Marvin Magay Green were arrested after Green allegedly fled a checkpoint at N.C. 904 and Fowler Road during the early morning hours.
The report said Green approached the deputies, stopped at the checking station, then sped away. He stopped the car and bailed out on Pireway Road, running into a wooded area where he was captured after a footchase.
While searching the vehicle and taking Leonard into custody, deputies found a white powder and open containers of alcohol, the report said. Leonard also gave deputies a fake name.
While Green was being processed at the detention center, arrest records show he had concealed a quantity of white powder that tested positive for illegal drugs.
Green, 43, was held under $227,500 secured bond. He was charged with driving while impaired, an open container violation, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, littering hazardous waste, drug paraphernalia, multiple traffic violations, resisting an officer, and possession of drugs in a jail. His address was listed as 2000 Wayside Dr., Loris.
Leonard, 39, of 13928 J.B. White Hwy. South, Whiteville, was wanted for outstanding warrants for trafficking in cocaine and fentanyl. She was also charged with possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and providing fictitious information to law enforcement.
