Critical need drives CRHS blood drive

Columbus Regional Health Center is sponsoring the #maskupcolumbus campaign.

Columbus Regional is hosting a blood drive June 24, and donors can walk away with some cash.

The Blood Connection (TBC) will host the drive, and every donor will receive a $20 Visa gift card.

Blood supplies are critically low right now, due to historically low donations and high needs during the pandemic, according to the hospital. The Blood Connection will be at the CRHS parking lot June 24 from 10:30 until 3:30 p.m. You need to preregister online.

“The local blood supply is now critically low after months of historically low blood donor turnout,” said Stephanie Miller, Community Services Coordinator at CRHS. “Local hospitals have consumed twice as much blood as the community has donated. Our community is inching dangerously close to a blood shortage.”

The blood supply is in an even more unstable position than it was at the beginning of the pandemic, according to TBC.
People who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 can donate immediately, TBC said in a press release.

TBC relies on on community blood donors to prevent blood emergencies. TBC supplies blood products to more than 80 hospitals in the Carolinas and Georgia.
