Here’s today’s Bottom Line
High pressure will hang on for today and tomorrow about the region. Temperatures are going to be back up above 90 today and especially tomorrow. Look for heat index values to be at or above 100 degrees on Friday as well.
Things begin to change a little as a frontal boundary approaches. It’s not going to be a strong front by any means, but it will likely linger over or just south of the area into early next week. This will mean a mix of sunshine and clouds Saturday-Tuesday with the chance for at least scattered thunderstorms mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures are likely to remain above seasonal normal values, at or above 90 degrees, until Tuesday when I think there’ll be more shower/storm coverage keeping us in the upper 80s. (Normal highs are around 85 for this time of year.)
The model blend isn’t showing all that much rain for the weekend, generally a third to a half inch for Saturday and Sunday. Take that with a grain of salt as individual thunderstorms can drop upwards of an inch of rain at any given point.
TROPICS: A small area of low pressure located several hundred miles east of Bermuda continues to produce some disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Although environmental conditions are marginal in the area, some additional development is possible over the next few days while the system moves slowly westward, and then possibly southward over the subtropical Atlantic. No threat to the Carolinas in the foreseeable future.
