A South Carolina man has been arrested and charged with felony hit and run and driving while license revoked after he allegedly struck and killed a farmworker last week.
Robert Eugene Bolick Jr., 31, of Phyllis Street, N. Myrtle Beach, was arrested on warrants drawn by Trooper J. Bailey of the Highway Patrol. Bolick is being held under $50,000 secured bond.
Bolick is alleged to have struck Jean Emaniste Samedy on U.S. 701 North near the Board of Elections, then fled the scene. A farmworker from Haiti, Samedy was staying at the Holiday Motel while harvesting blueberries in Bladen County. Friends said he went to the nearby Dollar General store and never returned.
Samedy was found in a ditch the next morning, his groceries scattered in a nearby yard.
Troopers originally interviewed a woman, whose name has not been released, after she contacted the Highway Patrol through a family member. The woman said she thought she struck something in the roadway on the night Samedy was killed. Her car was located and examined by troopers.
