An empty trailer home was destroyed by fire Friday, and officials are investigating the blaze. The home on Old Stake Road had been vacant for several years and had no electricity. The blaze is considered suspicious. A firefighter reported seeing two individuals walking away from the home when he arrived.
Three people, including a former employee, have been charged with shoplifting form the Bolton Dollar General store. A pit bull mix that may have been used for training fighting dogs was seized Friday near Whiteville. The male dog was found tied to a tree in the yard of a home on E.A. Barnes Road without shelter, during last week’s subfreezing temperatures, the sheriff’s office reported.
