A woman is in Grand Strand Hospital after a shooting incident in Tabor City Wednesday.

Russell Conway of the Tabor City Police said the 7:30 p.m. incident began near the athletic complex at Complex Drive and Athletic Street.

Tabitha Reeves of Whiteville was driven to Loris McLeod Hospital by a man who was a passenger in her vehicle. She was transferred to Grand Strand.

“We got a call from Loris Police after they were attempting to make a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle,” Conway said. The man driving Reeves’ BMW eventually stopped at the entrance to the Loris McLeod Emergency Department. Neither the male subject nor Reeves’ toddler were injured.

Police were first alerted to the shooting after a man in a pickup told officers he was struck by a stray round, Conway said. That individual followed the suspect vehicle to Woodrow Street.

The shooting actually occurred just outside the city limits, Conway said, so the investigation was turned over to the sheriff’s office. Multiple expired shell casings were found in the roadway, Conway said.

This is a developing story.
