Update, 9:40 p.m.

One person has been airlifted after a high speed chase that ended with a car carrying a grandmother and several children being rammed on J.K, Powell Boulevard Wednesday.

Friends said Anita Adams was carrying groceries for Friday’s Veterans Dinner at the fairgrounds when her car was struck by a driver who was alleged fleeing the Highway Patrol.

The crash blocked part of J.K. Powell Boulevard near Williamson Street and the Sonic restaurant.
At least one of the vehicles crashed through a chainlink fence at the Whiteville High School construction site.
We’re working to get more on this crash. Check back with Columbuscountynews.com and tune in to WTXY for updates.

Firefighters spread drying litter to soak up fluid from the damaged vehicles.
The Highway Patrol and Whiteville Police are investigating the wreck.
