A man walking in the middle of the road was struck and killed just after midnight Tuesday.
Interim Police Chief Ken Elliot said the man was killed while walking in the northbound lane of Brown Street. The motorist who struck the pedestrian stopped immediately, Elliot said.
The crash occurred at 12:30 .m. near the Oakwood Homes dealership, in the 600 block of Brown.
The man’s name has not been released, pending notification of family, Elliot said. No charges have been filed. The investigation is continuing.
The road death was the 16th in Columbus County this year, and the first in Chadbourn for 2021.
