One man has been jailed in the September shooting that left a Chadbourn man dead and two other people injured.

Chief Deputy Aaron Herring of the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said Tyquise Bobo” Baker, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday night. Baker is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Julius Armani Miller.

Miller was killed at a home on Dessie Road near Chadbourn. Baker was out on bond on multiple drug charges at the time of his arrest.

Deputies were called to the 500 block of Dessie Road around 11:30 p.m. on the night of the shooting. Miller was dead at the scene. Both of the additional victims were transported to an area hospital. Teonacah Evans, the most seriously injured, is recovering.

On Oct. 27, Herring said, deputies and investigators from the SWAT, HEAT and Vice/Narcotics units executed a search warrant on Baker’s home on Baldwin Street in Chadbourn. He was held under no bond, charged with murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Sheriff Jody Greene thanked both Chadbourn police and the citizens who came forward to assist in the case.

Deputies hit several homes on Dessie Road a few days later during a drug sweep of the area. Seven suspects were arrested, and a quantity of drugs and firearms seized.

Dessie Road has been the scene of several slayings over the past five years, both in the town limits of Chadbourn and just outside of town.

This is a developing story.
