Britt, Roberts win Chadbourn; Wilson new mayor at Lake

Two of the most hotly contested municipal elections in the county came down to the wire yesterday, with Shannon Britt and Rashad Roberts winning two seats on the Chadbourn Town council and Matt Wilson overwhelming Rosemary Dorsey for the  Lake Waccamaw mayor’s post.
Unofficial reports are still coming in from some towns with uncontested elections. Provisionals will also be counted on Canvass Day, Nov. 17.
At the lake, Wilson gathered 390 ballots over Dorsey’s 181. Wilson is a multi-term commissioner, and Dorsey is still in her first term on the board.
Incumbent Frank Carroll handily retained his seat representing the West Ward, outdistancing Amanda Worley 373 to 187.
Theresa McKeithan had 454 votes for the East Ward seat held by Wilson until December. Write ins totaled 46.
In Chadbourn, a field of six were vying for two town council seats. Incumbent Danny Clewis gathered only 86 votes, while Shannon Britt received 112 and longtime board member Rashad Roberts cemented his return to the council with 157. Marie Kelley earned 27 votes, and Tracy Ritchart 42. Rev. Myles Cartrette picked up 78 votes for a strong showing.

For the three seats available on the Fair Bluff town board, Spruell Britt came in last with 94, while Clarice Faison led the ballot with 133. Grayson Jarvis was second with 102, while Lester Drew took 98.

The town of Brunswick, which had three seats open and four candidates, saw incumbent Nancy Hill lead the ticket with 60, followed by Alonzo McArthur 51 and Tammy Blackmon with 45. Shirley Moore placed a close fourth with 43, and could ask for a recount.

Bolton Mayor Shawn Maynor was handily reelected with 81 ballots, while challenger C. Bryant Smith  collected 34. Two write-ins were cast.

On the Bolton board of alderman ballot, Gary Graham received 63 votes and  Daniel “Danny Boy” Brown saw 66. Write ins totaled 35.
