Wesley Thompson, 24, is being held under $25,000 secured bond on a charge of trafficking in synthetic cannabinoids, also known as K2 spice. His address was listed as 420 Twin Pines Road, Whiteville.

Major Russell Conway of the TCPD said his office was contacted by Acting Warden Jamie Bullard about drugs being found in the Blue Unit of the prison.

Video showed a staff member identified as Thompson putting two packages in a podium, and later Thompson allegedly delivered the drugs to an inmate’s cell. A search of the prisoner’s quarters turned up 121.7 grams of K2, the report said.

When Thompson was interviewed by TCPD, an agent of the State Bureau of Investigation, and prison officials, he immediately asked for an attorney.

Conway said Bullard and the prison staff was “very cooperative,” and is aggressively trying to keep drugs out of the prison.

The investigation is continuing, Conway said.
