Suspect captured after motorcycle chase

Lightbar on a car

A bad muffler sent a man back to jail after a high speed chase Monday.

Antonio Arp, 18, of 1250 Buckhead Rd., Bolton, was charged with fleeing to elude arrest and no operator’s license in the incident. He was held under $2,500 secured bond.

The sheriff’s office reported that someone called 911 just before noon in reference to shots being fired at a motorcycle. A deputy was close by and was on the scene in minutes.

Arp was allegedly operating the motorcycle in a reckless manner, according to the report, and the deputy initiated a traffic stop. Arp fled the officer, but was later taken into custody at Lee Webb and Pocosin Road. He told deputies that the motorcycle backfired, and no one had actually fired a shot at him.

Arp was arrested November 11 after a traffic stop turned up drugs and a .45 handgun in North Hallsboro. He admitted that the drugs and handgun were his, according to the report. He was held under a $3,000 secured bond in that case.
