A Fair Bluff teenager is dead and two others are recovering after a gunfight at a party near Cerro Gordo Friday night. Another teenager was wounded in a shooting in Chadbourn around the same time.
Markel Evans, 18, died from his injuries at Columbus Regional, Sheriff Jody Greene said. Evans was at a birthday party at the Five Points community building when he was shot, along with a 14 year old and a 16 year old victim.
A female aged 19 was reported shot on South Wilkes Street in Chadbourn around the same time, Greene said.
“We don’t know for sure yet if the shootings were related,” Greene said.
Witnesses told investigators that someone pulled into the parking lot at Five Points and fired multiple rounds while a large crowd was at the party there. Investigators found multiple shell casings that indicated the partygoers may have returned fire, Greene said.
The sheriff’s office was called at 10:47 p.m. to a shots fired call, Greene said.
This is a developing story.
