12/21/21 Sports Wrap-Up
NFL: Tom Brady was named to the NFL Pro-Bowl for the 15th time, making him the all-time leader in Pro-Bowl selections.
The Las Vegas Raiders beat the Browns 16-14, in last night’s early game in Cleveland.
The Vikings also won last night 17-9. It was not as close as it sounds, Minnesota outplayed Chicago from the start.
There are two games in the NFL this evening as well, finally wrapping up week 15.
The Washington Football Team will travel to Philadelphia to face their NFC rival Eagles. Both teams are 6-7. The kick-off is 7pm.
The Seatle Seahawks will face the Los Angeles Rams in tonight’s west coast game. This game is also scheduled for a 7pm kick-off.
Week 16’s Thursday night game is the San Francisco 49ers at the Tennessee Titans. Scheduled for an 8:20 kick-off on the NFL Network and FOX.
NBA: The Charlotte Hornets lost last night in Utah. The Jazz won 112-102. It was a lopsided first quarter, that the Hornets could not recover from. Rudy Gobert led all scorers and rebounders in the game. Gobert scored a double-double with 23 points and 21 rebounds. He also had 2 assists. LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges led your Hornets, both with double doubles of their own. The line for Ball was 21 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists. Bridges ended the game with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The Hornets are back at it Thursday night in Denver versus the Nuggets.
NHL: Three of the four games scheduled in the NHL last night were cancelled due to Covid-19 protocols across the league. In the one game played last night, the Stars outscored the Minnesota Wild 7-4 in Dallas.
Carolina Hurricanes in Boston tonight has been postponed. It is one of eight games postponed tonight, out of ten scheduled across the league.
The NHL has been hit the hardest of all the professional sports leagues by the Covid-19 infection and its variants. Some talk has been circulating about a pause in the season till the infections are under control.
NCAA: Men’s Football
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane’s took the Myrtle Beach Bowl yesterday over the Old Dominion Monarchs 30-17. The Monarchs opened the game with a 100-yard kick-off return and kept it close, but Tulsa pulled away after halftime.
Today will feature two games.
The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl between the Kent State Golden Flashes and the Wyoming Cowboys at 3:30pm.
The Frisco Bowl will feature UTSA Roadrunners and the San Diego State Aztecs at 7:30pm.
Tomorrow is the Armed Forces Bowl which has the Missouri Tigers facing the Army Black Knights
Men’s Basketball
North Carolina Tarheels hosts Appalachian State tonight at 7pm on the ACC Network.
Duke hosts Virginia Tech on Wednesday night at 9pm on ESPN2.
LOCAL SPORTS: Boys Varsity Basketball
Last night the Whiteville Wolfpack went into South Columbus and got the win against the Stallions 48-44. The Wolfpack moves to 6-2 on the season and the Stallions fall to 1-5.
In tonight’s Varsity boys’ basketball action, the 2-5 Gators of East Columbus will face a tough Southeastern Christian Academy. The Warriors have a 7-2 record entering tonight’s game.
The 0-9 Stallions are back in action tonight. South Columbus will head to West Bladen to take on the Knights. The Knights are 5-2 on the season.
Girls Varsity Basketball
The 0-10 Lady Stallions are looking for their first win tonight as they also travel to West Bladen for a 6pm tip-off. The Lady Knights are 6-2 this season.
Tomorrow night The Whiteville Lady Wolfpack are back in action as they travel to Lumberton for a 6pm scheduled tip-off.
