Letter to the Editor: What’s Real Reason for Complaint?

An advocacy group called Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) under the advisement of a ‘concerned citizen’ here in Columbus County has attacked our Sheriff’s Department about a Bible verse on the walls of the office. The verse is Philippians 4:13. They say that it is in violation of the federal separations clause. I have question about their reasoning and purpose. 

Here is a quote from a news article updated on 12.20.2021 at 6:05 p.m. and posted on 12.20.2021 at 4:06 p.m. “The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office serves all citizens regardless of belief or nonbelief,” the Dec. 6 letter signed FFRF’s staff attorney Christopher Line states. “This message alienates the 24 percent of Americans who are non-religious.”  So, he says 24 percent are alienated, but by his postulation 76 percent of the religious in Columbus County are alienated. Also mentioned in the same article a ‘concerned citizen’ brought this to the FFRF’s attention. Concerned about next year’s election? 

We can go on and on about this, the law, the constitution but we all know what this is about. It is about your freedom, religious freedom. It is about a party that has repeatedly been determined to tear down everything in the moral fabric in this country. How could a Bible verse be abusive to anyone? If an atheist does not believe in the creator, then how could religious words be of danger to them? It is not about the verse; it is not about atheist; it is about you and your freedom and a sheriff’s race next year. 

The Columbus County Republican Party stands with our sheriff. It is not about party; it is about what is right and what is wrong. You are looking at a party that take use your rights away as a Christian to help win a sheriff’s race. How can anyone support a party that wipes their feet on you and a religion that preaches and proclaims peace? 

The trouble now is there are not enough Bible verses posted. The same Constitution the FFRF is threatening litigation on concerning a Bible verse says this:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Please note ‘endowed by their creator’ acknowledging God and using his word in the establishment of our government. Not as the state religion but as freedom of religion as well as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Much more could be said about this organization, but I have made my point. This is about wiping their feet on the Constitution and you. Where are the Democrat Party leaders in this county? Where are the Christian Democrats? I guess elections and politics are more important.
