• If you’re looking for a new addition to the family in the coming year, adoption fees at the Columbus County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services are now half price. Fees for dogs are $67.50. Fees for female cats are $37.50, and the cost for male cats is $27.50.  

The adoption fees for dogs cover a spay or neuter voucher, rabies, parvo, and Bordetella vaccines, and deworming. Costs for cats include a spay or neuter voucher and rabies vaccine.  

The facility is located at 288 Legion Drive in Whiteville. For more information about animal adoption, call 910.641.3945. 

• Families First would like to wish Columbus County a very Merry Christmas. The organization and their facilities will be closed from Dec. 24- Jan. 2, but if you or someone you know needs services, please call the crisis hotline at 910.641.0444.  

Families First was voted best non-profit in Columbus County for 2021.

• There will be a free meal distribution on Friday, Dec 24 from 10:30a.m.-1p.m. at Tabor City Middle School. All are welcome. The school is located at 200 Orange Street in Tabor City.

• Fair Bluff Baptist Church will also be offering free meals starting at 9 a.m. on Christmas Eve. The meal is open to anyone. All plates are for takeout.

• Abundant Life Assembly of God would like to thank all the helpers and volunteers that participated the church’s Toys for Tots program. They were able to serve over 250 families this year for Christmas.  

Lake Waccamaw State Park.

• Lake Waccamaw State Park will be closed on Christmas Day. Representatives and staff would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.  

• The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a family that needed a little help for Christmas. The child was only asking for a bike. Some of the administrative staff and deputies with the Civil Division donated money to purchase one for the child. Deputy Chris Ellison and Sgt. Darris Floyd picked up the bike and delivered it to the family.

• St. James Missionary Baptist Church will be having their Christmas play entitled “The Sweetest Thing” on Sunday Dec. 26 at 5 p.m. The church is located at 3245 Old Northeast Road, Lake Waccamaw.
