The Whiteville Junior Woman’s Club is back again this year with their 2nd annual Artic Alligator Plunge. The purpose of the event is to raise money to help the organization with charitable projects, scholarships for local high school students, beautification and conservation projects, and serving the needs of the local community.
There are three ways to join in the fun this year. Vote for your favorite celebrity jumper by making donations to Whiteville Junior Woman’s Club. The one with the most votes gets to choose whether they jump or stay dry. The other nine competitors are jumping. Be sure to visit the website to vote for competitors and donate to their campaign so they can take home the bragging rights.
You can also take the plunge yourself. You can sign up and jump, or if you can’t make it to Lake Waccamaw, register for the virtual option. The cost to register is $30, and all the contestants will receive a t-shirt and metal.
Come out and cheer on the contestants on at the Lake Waccamaw State Park on the day of the big splash. The event will also be broadcasted live on the Whiteville Junior Woman’s Club Facebook page on the day of the event.
Last year’s Artic Alligator Plunge raised a whopping $11,000. In first place was Sheriff Jody Greene who decided to join in on the fun and get wet. Senator Danny Britt took second place, and owner of Simply Dance Staci Ezzell, followed close behind in third.
Former mayor of Lake Waccamaw Daniel Hilburn also took the plunge at 2021 event, and new mayor Matt Wilson is keeping the tradition alive. “Those ladies do a lot of great work for the community. When they asked me to participate this year, I couldn’t say no,” said Wilson.
The Artic Alligator Plunge will take place on Mar. 5 this year at 9 a.m. Contestants will jump off the pier at the Lake Waccamaw State Park, and the winner will decide if they will take the plunge or stay dry. Feb. 26 is deadline to sign up, and those interested can visit www.articalligatornc.com for more details.
