It was the second and final scrimmage of the Whiteville Wolfpack Varsity Baseball 2022 season as the West Brunswick Trojans came into town for the first home action at Legion Stadium. It was like a mid-summer’s day as the temperature hovered above 80 degrees and the sun was shining. The Wolfpack had their numbered uniforms on this week as they took the field and it seemed like de ja vu as the Wolfpack started the game striking out the side.

Once again, the Wolfpack pitched with power and when trouble arose, they pitched out of it. They scored some early runs and played with confidence. In the top of the fifth inning West Brunswick put together a threat with a runner on first, with a deep shot over the left fielder’s head leading to a triple and a play at the plate from the runner on base. With the runner rounding third the left fielder tracked down the ball and connected with the cut-off man. The cut-off man turned and fired a strike to home plate, nailing the runner, keeping the Trojans scoreless till the eighth inning. Yes, I said the eighth inning, they played an extended nine innings to see all the players hit and every pitcher pitch.

If it were an official game the final score would have been 3-0 in favor of Wolfpack Nation. Overall, it was a success for both sides as they got to evaluate their entire squads as the regular season approaches.
