Woman Injures Two CRHS Workers

Two Columbus Regional employees are recovering after they were allegedly beaten by a female patient.

Warrants show Kimberly Cherie Gore, 44, of Radio Station Road, was placed under a secured bond on two charges of assault on emergency personnel with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury. The incident occurred Jan. 26.

Warrants show that Gore was under an involuntary commitment order, and tried to leave the hospital. Gore allegedly punched Joanne Smith in the head and neck. Smith is a healthcare worker at the hospital.

When a security officer, Elmer Thomas Newton, tried to intervene, Gore allegedly hit him in the head, causing him to fall on a concrete floor. Newton suffered a dislocated kneecap and torn ligaments in the attack according to the warrant.

 Whiteville Police investigated the assaults.
