3/10/22 Daily Sports Wrap Up 

NFL: Colts trade Carson Wentz the Commanders for future draft picks. 

NBA Last Night: Hornets lost to the Celtics 115-101. Jayson Tatum finished with 44 points, and he set a Celtic franchise record scoring a total of 135 points in three consecutive games. Miles Bridges had 17 points and LaMelo ball finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Charlotte is back on the floor in New Orleans tomorrow versus the Pelicans. Tip-off is 7pm. 

Bulls run over the Pistons 114-108 

Suns handle the Heat 111-90. Jimmy Butler did not play for the Heat. The Suns are the first team to lock down their birth to the playoffs. 

Bucks beat the Hawks 124-115. It is the Bucks sixth straight win. Giannis Antetokounmpo finishes with 43 points and 12 rebounds for the Bucks. Trea Young ended the game with 27 points and 11 assists for the Hawks. 

Lakers fall to the Rockets 139-130 in overtime. LeBron James finishes with a 23 point, 14 rebounds and 12 assist triple-double, but it was not enough as the Lakers loss their nineth straight road game. 

Thunder gets silenced by the Timberwolves 132-102 

Magic cage the Pelicans 108-102 

Raptors beat the Spurs 119-104 

Knicks at Mavericks 107-77. Mavericks scored 34 points in the first half and just 12 points in the fourth quarter. Luka Doncic finished with 31 points for Dallas. 

Jazz blows away the Trail Blazers 123-85 

Nuggets and the Kings 106-100 

Wizards get beaten by the Clippers 115-109 

Tonight: Nets versus the 76ers at 7:30pm TNT; Nuggets host the Warriors 10pm TNT 

NHL: The Hurricanes host the Avalanche at 7pm tonight in the PNC Arena. Carolina has a 39-12-5 record and they are in first place in the Metropolitan division. 

Yesterday:  Capitals fall to Oilers 4-3 in overtime; Canucks beat the Canadiens 5-3 

Tonight:  Golden Knights versus the Sabres 7pm 

Jets and Devils 7pm 

Senators host the Kraken 7pm 

Wild and Red Wings 7pm 

Flyers and Panthers 7pm 

Bruins hosts the Black Hawks 7pm 

Coyotes and Maple Leafs 7pm 

Blue Jackets versus the Islanders 7pm

MLB: The league and the players met yesterday to try and get a deal done and once again they went to bed without an agreement. The talks yesterday resulted in the regular season being pushed back to April 14, meaning MLB owners canceled two more series on the schedule. Earlier this week both sides agreed to a 14 second pitch clock, larger bases and banned the infield shift for the upcoming season.  

NCAA Men’s Basketball: Selection Sunday is this week at 6pm on CBS, with the first games starting Tuesday March 15. The NCAA Championship game will be April 4 in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

Yesterday: Wake Forest lost to Boston College 82-77 in overtime; Rice beats Charlotte 73-61 

Today:  Syracuse versus Duke a t noon on ESPN 

East Carolina and Cincinnati 1pm ESPNU 

North Carolina hosts Virginia 9:30pm ESPN 

NASCAR Cup Series: Next up for the Cup Series is the Ruoff Mortgage 500 at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale. The engines are scheduled to start at 3:30pm with TV coverage on FOX.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is back at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 19 at 2:30pm.

NASCAR Xfinity Series continues March 12 in Phoenix 4:30pm on FS1 and MRN. 


Local Sports: Dixie Youth Baseball registrations are going on right now through April 1, for ages 13-14 at the Whiteville Parks and recreation building. You must bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate when registering. The price is 15 dollars for city residents and 25 dollars for county residents.

T-Ball registration is currently underway through March 18 at the Whiteville Parks and Recreations building. T-Ball is for players 4-6 years old. A birth certificate is required at registration. Your child cannot turn 7 years old during the season and be 4 years old before the season starts. The cost is 15 dollars for city residents and 25 dollars for county residents. 

Men’s Tennis: Whiteville Wolfpack defeats east Bladen 8-1.
Varsity Boys Baseball: The Whiteville Wolfpack is back in action Saturday at 1pm (weather permitting) in Legion Stadium, Midway will be in town. Pregame coverage begins at 12:45pm on KOOL-FM.
