The end of Holy Week is drawing near, and so are the end of Easter activities as of Sunday. Be sure to catch some of the events happening in your area starting this evening. 

Engage Life Church has moved locations, and to celebrate their new facility and the Resurrection, they will be having a crucifixion re-enactment titled “Engage the Cross.” The service is set to take place on Friday, April 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The church is now located at 386 Thompson Town Road in Whiteville. 

The Veterans Memorial Park of America will be hosting an Easter egg hunt for the community on Saturday, April 16, from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. The Easter bunny will be making an appearance at 12 p.m. with his ice cream truck so be sure to bring your cameras. There will also be hotdogs and games. The park is located at 6354 James B White Highway South in Whiteville. 

Crossroads Church will be having an egg hunt on Saturday, April 16 from 9:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. Children grade 5 and under are welcomed to the event. The church will have festivities set up at 132 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville.    

Old Zion Wesleyan Church will be hosting a free community egg hunt and celebration on Saturday, April 16, from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. There will be over 2,000 filled eggs, 3 bouncy houses, free train rides, drinks, snacks, and prizes. Come out and join in on the fun at 10144 Swamp Fox Road in Tabor City. 

Western Prong Baptist Church will be having a big Easter shindig on April 16 at 11 a.m. The only catch is, you must register for the event. There will be food, fun, and prizes for folks of all ages. There will be an adult hunt at 11:30 with 10 Foodlion gift card filled eggs, and a children’s hunt will follow soon afterwards. Boardman Baptist Church will be having an egg hunt complete with a surprise visit from the Easter bunny on Saturday, April 16, beginning at 10 a.m. BBC is located at 2417 Old Boardman Road in Evergreen.   

Crossroads Church will be hosting the Arise Tour at East Columbus High School on Saturday, April 16 from 6-8 p.m. The night of Christian music will feature the bands Newsong and Stars Go Dim. Dustin Chapman will also make a guest appearance at the show. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the show is free.  

The traditional Lake Waccamaw Easter Sunrise Service will be from 6:20 a.m.-6:50 a.m. at the sailing club on Easter Sunday. Immediately following the service, breakfast will be served at the Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church. Invitations to attend are extended to all local churches and community members.

Students at Columbus Career and College Academy didn’t get left out when it came to an Easter egg hunt yesterday. The early college hosted a spring fling for underclassman. The afternoon was filled with snacks, refreshments, and of course, egg hunting. The kids were able to trade in their plastic finds for candy and prizes.

Resident Debbie Dew bragged on an area law enforcement officer this week. Dew had a flat tire and couldn’t get anyone on the phone to come to her aid, but she didn’t have to fret long. Trooper Justice of the Highway Patrol came to her aid and put the spare on her car so she could be on her way. Dew thanked the trooper in a Facebook post.

The city of Whiteville will be hosting Catch the Country with Ryleigh Madison and Dustin Chapman on April 21 from 6- 8:30 p.m. at the Vineland Station Depot. Madison is the 16-year-old South Columbus High School who earned the golden ticket to Hollywood on American Idol.

Teresa Mobley, Site Coordinator for the Coastal Horizons Center, stopped by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office to drop off some locking medicine cases for them to distribute during community events. The facility offers multiple services including mental health programs, crisis intervention, family preservation, health services, substance abuse outpatient treatment, veteran’s assistance, and other community outreach programs.
