Third Cruise for a Cause is May 29

This year’s parade to honor veterans and military.

The third annual Cruise for a Cause golf cart parade is set for Sunday, May 29, at Lake Waccamaw. Participants will be decorating their carts in honor of the five branches of the military, and proceeds from the event will go to various veteran’s organizations in the county.

Registration and parade line-up will begin at 2 p.m. on Columbia Avenue near Elizabeth Brinkley Park, and the parade will start at 3 p.m. The parade route goes from Lakeshore Drive, to Premier Living and Rehab Center, down Canal Cove Road, and will end at One-Stop Convenience Store on Waccamaw Shores. One-Stop will have live music after the parade.

There will be a $5 entry fee for each golf cart, and a $100 prize will be given out for the best decorated golf cart. Sponsors are also asking for canned food and dry goods donations to support the local food ministry.

The cruise began during the first Memorial Day weekend after the start of pandemic, as a way to bring some cheer to the residents of Premier Living. The event proved so popular that it has become an annual event.

Commemorative t-shirts can be ordered right now for $20 by contacting Jessica Andrews at 910.625.5053. All t-shirt orders must be paid in advance before the event. Only golf carts will be allowed to travel in the parade. No ATVs or UTVs can be entered.
