Dawn Hinshaw has been named the new Agribusiness Technology instructor at Southeastern Community College.

Hinshaw comes to SCC with nine years of experience teaching at West Columbus High School. Since beginning her career she has received her masters degree in Agricultural Education from North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University. She was named Teacher of the Year at West Columbus High School and Teacher of the Year for the South Central FFA Region.

“I am very excited to grow the next generation of agriculturalists at SCC,” said Hinshaw.

Hinshaw began cultivating a love for agriculture in her childhood. She credits a local farm for that sparked interest. After taking a few agriculture classes as a teenager she decided to attend North Carolina State University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Education.

SCC is enrolling students in the Agribusiness Technology program that will start on Aug. 15. Registration is open and students are encouraged to apply early. The college is enrolling students tuition-free for the Fall 2022 semester thanks to generous donors and federal grants that are available to eligible students.

Graduates of the Agribusiness Technology program have a great advantage to transferring to a four-year university thanks to a guaranteed admission agreement that was signed with the University of Mount Olive (UMO) in August 2021. Options in the Agriculture program at UMO include Agribusiness, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Production Systems, and Animal Science.

There are also short-term training class options available at SCC. Interested students can easily register online in classes like Animal Science or Sustainable Agriculture.
