Water Tank Maintenance May Cause Pressure Loss, Discoloration

County water customers in District II can expect pressure loss, discoloration and possibly boil orders in the coming weeks.

Maintenance on the water tank serving the North Whiteville and Western Prong area will cause the tank to be drawn down beginning today (July 6), the county said in a press release.

The tank will be down for five weeks, and during that time, Spokeswoman Amanda Prince said, “customers may experience water quality issues.”

“Staff with the Columbus County Public Utilities Department will be working diligently to provide flushing of the water system and to make sure that adequate pressure is maintained throughout the system at all times,” the release said.

Discoloration and pressure loss are still likely to occur, the county said. Customers are asked to call 910.770.2158 to report problems.

The county will also report any boil orders in the media.
