One Arrested After Fight, Shooting

One man was shot in the head and another is jail after an incident Tuesday on Georgia Pacific Road.

Deputies were called to contract Lumber in the 1900 block of Georgia Pacific Road just after 10 a.m., the report said. They found Joshua Spaulding with a gunshot wound to the head. Spaulding was taken to Columbus Regional.

Witnesses said Spaulding was shot during an argument with Dyron Smith Jr., according to the sheriff’s office. Smith fled the scene on a Yamaha motorcycle, and was later picked up in Chadbourn.

Smith, 29, was arrested on a single charge of assault with a deadly weapon, and held under $25,000 secured bond. His address was listed as 67 Panther Dr., Lumberton.

Spaulding’s condition was not available.
