The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville will have hands-on learning opportunities throughout the month of July. Children will get the chance to see how it’s made and build things for nature activities. Please note that the museum will be closed in observance of Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4.
Second Saturday Storytime
Join the museum for Second Saturday Storytime on Saturday, July 8, at 10:30 a.m. Staff will be reading and speaking about oceans and sea turtles. A nature-related activity will follow. This program is for kids ages 2–5 years old, but all are welcome.
Second Saturday Storytime is sponsored by the Columbus Council of North Carolina Reading Association in partnership with the NCMNS. The event is held every second Saturday of each month at the museum.
Playspace Pop-up: Slime
Get squishy on Thursday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m. with slime in the Playspace Pop-up. Participants will learn all about slime and make their own. This program is best suited for ages 4–8 years old and is weather-dependent. No registration is required.
Thursday Storytime
If you miss Second Saturday Storytime, you’ll get the opportunity to attend Thursday Storytime on July 20, at 10:30 a.m. This program is held every third Thursday of the month. Museum staff will be reading at story about Earth’s moon, and a lunar crafting activity will follow. Children ages 2-5 years old are invited to attend, but book-lovers of any age are encouraged to join in on the fun.
Movies on Madison: Luca
On the Italian Riviera, an unlikely but strong friendship grows between a human being and a sea monster disguised as a human at the next Movies on Madison on Friday, July 21, at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville. The feature film will be Luca. The museum lawn will open at 7:30 p.m. for activities, and the movie will begin at dusk. Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase.
This is a family event, so no coolers, pets, alcoholic beverages, or smoking is allowed on the facility grounds. Admission is free.
EcoExplore: Build a Net
Build your own net and then go outside to practice catching and releasing insects at the next ecoExplore activity. This program is geared towards ages 5–13. Current ecoEXPLORE users will earn five points for participating.

Nature Playspace: Dinosaur Dig
Join museum staff and dig for dinosaur bones on Thursday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. Attendees will gather at Nature PlaySpace to dig for fossils like a grown-up paleontologist. This program is best suited for ages 4–8 years old and is weather-dependent.
