A massive manhunt is underway in Delco, where the suspect who allegedly shot a deputy is still on the run.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop on Delco Prosper Road around 7:53 a.m ., according to the sheriff’s office, and the suspect fled. The chase led down a side road where the suspect crashed and fled on foot.
When the deputy encountered the suspect, the CCSO said, an “altercation occurred,” leaving the deputy with a bullet wound to the arm. The suspect then fled again on foot. The deputy drove himself to another location, where he met another deputy, who drove him to meet an ambulance.
Mantracking teams, K9s and drones from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office and neighboring agencies are searching for the suspect in the Delco Prosper Road area, the sheriff’s office said. Motorists are asked to avoid Delco Prosper Road at this time. A command center has been set up at Prosper Baptist Church. The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist. More than 75 officers from multiple agencies are on the manhunt.
“We also want to urge citizens to secure their property and vehicles if they reside in this, or nearby communities,” the CCSO said in a press release. “Please call 911 if you observe any unusual or suspicious activities or persons on your property.”
