A power outage in downtown Whiteville is affecting the business day throughout much of the area. Duke Energy says that power will be restored by 1:45 p.m. this afternoon.
The outage is causing interruptions in regional cell service and traffic lights, and businesses on Madison Street are having to turn away customers. Crews are in the area working on powerlines.
